"What is Streaming?"

Streaming video or Webcasting describe the transmission of specially encoded digital multimedia including audio, video, animation, graphics, photo images and text over the Internet to end users. Streaming refers to any method that uses streaming servers to transmit media via the Internet so that playback begins immediately and no permanent storage is necessary on the end-user's computer. A streamed media file starts to play shortly after it begins to load, and then continuously downloads data to keep the media playing. Streaming lets end users experience a site’s audio or video clips immediately instead of waiting for a file to finish downloading. The file is discarded after playback, so users can view even feature-length movies without worrying about disk space.

Examples of Streaming Media

TERRAN media can encode your material to the following Streaming Media formats: Windows Media, Quicktime and Real Video/Audio. There are various commonly used encoding speeds:

- 8.5K Encoding: Ideal for streaming of voice and monotone music; not video.
- 28K Encoding: Ideal for streaming of voice and stereo music; not video.
- 56K Encoding: (Dial-up modem speed) This is the entry level for streaming of video media files with mono sound. Offers the smallest video screen size: 160 pixels X 112 pixels
- 128K Encoding: (ISDN speed) Offers much better video and stereo sound with a larger video screen size: 240 pixels X 172 pixels.
- 220K Encoding: (Internal network and above) This is the best in giving smooth, T.V. quality streaming. Largest video screen: 320 pixels X 240 pixels.

*Note: Video files can be encoded and streamed at 300K, 500K, and 700K with increasing quality and screen size.

£10.00/month/minute - 56K (Dial-up) or lower stream.
£20.00/month/minute, - 128K (ISDN) stream.
£30.00/month/minute - 200K (Cable/LAN) or higher stream
£50.00/month/minute - Multi-stream (contains all the above types)
